I am sorry I have hardly any experience with gmsh.
(Just enough to generate trivial tetra meshes for my test cases...)

As described here (http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/openfoam-meshing-gmsh/79984-2d-mesh-generation-tutorial-gmsh.html) I could just delete the defaultFaces, and everything...
