I have found the best way is to learn macros is to do what I want in prostar with the buttons, then look at the commands in the prostar output window. This is similar to how I learned to use macros in other programs such as excel.

Some other useful macro like features I use

function keys "*abbr" command (abbreviations)

for these you need to make sure you have your STARUSR environment set so that they are remembered globally

Me too following the same method in starcd. It is the good method to know macros and its power. See the command at output window and see help of that command. Only drawback in starcd help is it is little difficult to know GUI option if you know command(reverse of what steve said). In Ansys it is very good. - regds

Steve,

would you give an example, how a macro has to be defined to work with abbreviations? For example: cset news fluid should be executed by typing cnf?

Thanks Peter

In your STAR-CD installation there should be a "gifts" directory ($STARDIR/gifts). This contains examples of pro-STAR panels, macros and PRODEFS (allows you to define short cuts such as cf = cset news fuid) and PROINIT (any commands you want to be executed when you start up pro-STAR) and other stuff.

Another way of creating short cuts is to define "Function keys" (in the GUI via "Utility > Functions Keys ..) which allows you to set F1,F2 ... to issue a particular command.

hi Jörn, I have seen your website. Although I did not understand the language, I got impressed with the animations you have posted on it. I just want to know how you have created such high quality movies in starcd? Since I use GIF animator which give poor quality movies. Thanks,

Is is that hard to understand german? I think it should be possible if you read it very very slow ;-)

The animations were made about five or six year ago on an SGI using movieconvert/dmconvert.
