Hello everyone,

I am working on an Overset mesh simulation.

I don't know how to create an overset mesh situation from zero, so i experience it on simple parts created in starccm.

I have created a cubic background region (with one free stream boundary), then a cubic overset region with a wall sphere in it.

The wall sphere is the physical item on which is applied the free stream.
To be more precise on the overset region, the wall boundary is the sphere, and the overset boundary is the subtract between the sphere and the overset block.

When i mesh everything with surface remesher, polyhedral mesher with the same base size in both regions, it works.

When i initialize the solution after creating the overset mesh interface, i get the following error :

Updating indirect region interface Overset Mesh 1 between Overset and Background.
Failed to create Overset Mesh Interface between Overset and Background: no startcell found !
Command: InitializeSolution
CompletedCommand: InitializeSolution
error: Server Error

I have searched on the internet and found absolutely nothing on that error. Would somebody know some clues on how to solve that error please?

If you have any questions let me know

Thanks,
Cris

EDIT : It appears that the inside of the sphere is also meshed. And of course we don't want it. Maybe that's because we include the sphere as a part for the continuum mesh. But if we don't include the sphere, the sphere doesn't exist for the physical simulation so that's not what we want either

you need to combine your inner block and the sphere into one part and then it will mesh only outside the sphere and the overset hole cutting will work - the message it quite logical

It works !! Thanks a lot !!!!

Just one last question : the background mesh goes inside the sphere when i "hide" the sphere mesh in my mesh scene. Is it normal plz? (As you said though, the mesh of the overset doesn't go inside the sphere, as planned).

i suspect if you dont understand this then you need to go back to basics on what overset mesh is and how it works and maybe have a detailed read of the help and read some steve articles
