Hi all,

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I知 new at StarCCM+.

I知 generating negative volume cells / SIGSEGV error messages. I notice it happens when I move around to different geographical locations.

I move around a lot for work.

I create SIM_#1 in northern NY. It runs and completes the simulations fine. I then go to southern NY and when I try to open SIM_#1 I get a SIGSEGV issue which digging into was due to negative volume cells. So I clear the generated mesh, save as SIM_#2 and can run the simulation in souther NY. If I go back to northern NY, the SIGSEGV issue happens for SIM_#2 but then SIM_#1 opens fine.

Is this supposed to happen? Does StarCCM+ limit the geographical locations where you can work on files?

I知 running a simulation on a 6 core computer with 64GB of RAM

Thank you very much!

That would be silly

a sigsegv happens when you try to access something that doesn't exist. What is common is that you save something and try to open something... and access... something that's not there.

This can easily happen if you've got macros not set up properly. But it could also be a million other bugs in your setup. If it's critical you should try to figure out what you did wrong or it will keep happening no matter where you go. Or, it could be the obvious, cells with negative volumes not having fluxes stored on them which are then missing when you try to open your sim later.

SIGSEGV (known as "Access Violation" under Windows) is a purely a software (Star-CCM+) internal error related to accessing wrong address.
Might be avoided by not using something that causes it, but in general - it is the software developer's part of work.
