Hi all,

I am a masters student currently looking for feedback and help with Star CCM+ Lagrangian particle modeling through a pipe. This includes applications like pneumatic particle conveying.

I would like to run a a Lagrangian particle tracking simulation with LES or DES turbulence model included. Does anyone perhaps know if this is plausible.

Star CCM+ returns a warning stating that a RANS turbulence model was expected. I anyone can assist me your response wil be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Hi Michael,

I don't think I can help with this one but I would advise you to use the discrete random walk for the lagrangian particles.

Hi Lefteris,

Thanks for your advice. I believe random walk model in Star ccm+ is named the turbulent dispersion. Please correct me if I am wrong. I have run some of these simulations with turbulent dispersion on but still found difficulty in relating experimental measured data to simulated results.

But I am still looking for the reason why LES and DES is incompatible with Lagrangian particle tracking. If someone knows please send a reply.

Kind regards
Michael
