Good afternoon, I send you greetings from Mexico. I come to you with the following question: I have 2 computers:
1) HP Zbook with Intel Xeon E3-1505M v5 2.8GHz CPU, 64GB RAM, a 500GB SSD and 4GB NVidia Quadro M200M GPU 2) Lenovo x3850 x6 server with 4 Intel CPUs Xeon E7-4850 v4 @ 2.10Ghz, 64 cores and 128 threads, and does not have a GPU. On both computers I have the same version of StarCCM+ (2021.1.1), and when running the Surface Wrapper with the same .sim file, on the laptop it takes half as long as on the server using the maximum core capacity. What is the reason for this difference? Both computers use the Maximum Performance plan. I appreciate your time and your help. |

A very possible reason is that Surface Wrapper runs in serial mode (except for the most recent releases in which it was improved for parallel runs) - i.e. only one core is used.
Let's take a look at mentioned CPU's and check the single thread rating: 1) Xeon E3-1505M v5: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php....80GHz&id=2637 >> Single Thread Rating: 2000 2) Xeon E7- 4850: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php...077&cpuCount=4 >> Single Thread Rating: 931 2000 vs 931 - is exactly what you've mentioned: Quote:
