I am trying to model the attached geometry with a conjugate heat transfer approach. I have a solid plate with holes drilled at 30 degrees which then has a fluid region either side of it. As shown in the attached diagram, fluid flows up through the bottom and should flow through each of the 18 tubes as well and then come out the other side into the chamber at the top which also has fluid flowing from left to right.

The problem I am having is that the flow will not go through the tubes, as illustrated by the attached streamline plot. The attached vector diagram also shows that the fluid in the top and bottom chambers is fine. I think the problem is how I have set up the geometry. I set up the geometry in STAR itself and to create the three separate regions, I used imprint instead of merge. I then created interfaces between the bottom of the top chamber and top of the plate as well the bottom of the plate and top of the bottom chamber. The bottom of the top chamber and top of the bottom chamber are both specified as walls though and I think this is why the flow is not going through.

How do I get the fluid through the tubes?

It is worth menioned that the heat transfer in the plate seems to be working though which is good.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

You will need elliptical regions broken out on the top/bottom surfaces of the fluid. These will need to be broken out as separate boundaries and individual interfaces made between the film cooling holes and the boundaries. Flow should then be able to pass through the holes.
