Good afternoon everyone!

As you can see I am a new member in this forum. I am doing my Bachelor thesis in solid mechanics and got stuck with the ANSYS and therefore would really appreciate your help.

The project is to analyze a tube under two conditions,

1) It will be constrained at one end as a cantilever. At the other end, it will be pushed by a

prescribed displacement applied over a certain area. The data to be extracted:

a. Visualization of the failure mode.

b. The reaction curve sampled at constrained nodes vs applied displacement.

2) It will be placed between two rigid plates. One of the plates is stationary, and the other one is controlled through prescribed displacement to close the gap and thus crashing the tube.

The data to be extracted:

a. Visualization of the failure mode.

b. The reaction curve sampled from one of the plates against the absolute value of applied displacement/gap closure.

It will be also tested for two different materials, LDPE (isotropic) and some kind of cellulose-based material (anisotropic)

So the questions are,

i) What settings do I have to specify in the analysis ( contact bodies, mesh and so on, because this should be a nonlinear problem?) I have talked to our supervisor and settings he mentioned were, such as to put the large deflection on.

ii) In the second test it says that we should have two rigid plates and have a prescribed displacement but in ANSYS its not possible to have a displacement on a rigid body.

Thank you so much for your help!
