GridPro to SU2 - Any resources/examples or just feedback of someone who is done it

Hi,

I have a multi-block mesh from GridPro which consists of a idealized supersonic capsule and idealized inflated parachute. The near region of the parachute alone is 4200 blocks (2,150,000 cells) and I'm still working on the entire domain (could be between 8000-10,000 blocks).

I want to solve this in a commercial solver and in an academic code. I'm curious to know how SU2 can handle it. The mesh is fully structured. Is this doable on SU2?

I'm obviously a newbie but I'm already reading SU2 documentation. Just thought I could get ahead start and post here..

Hi Bruno,

Unfortunately, you cannot run a multi-block grid with an unstructured solver like SU2. My recommendation is to create an unstructured grid... compared with the generation of a multi-block one... unstructured should be much quicker.

In the export tool of gridpro, there is an option for exporting to a su2 format. It was explained to me that the only way this work is by changing the block connectivity to a face connectivity which can talk to an unstructured solver.

I wanted to know if anybody has tried this. Wanted to know if they run into any errors and what to expect. If nobody has tried it, I intend to do once I have a complete mesh to test in a Mach 2.4 flow case using SU2. Perhaps, I could bring some elaborate ideas on my experience if I get it done.
