mesh morphing to manually transform a patch

Hi all,

In the config_template.cfg file from SU2 6.2, one can find (line 1069):

% - TRANSLATE_GRID ( x_Disp, y_Disp, z_Disp ), as a unit vector
% - ROTATE_GRID ( x_Orig, y_Orig, z_Orig, x_End, y_End, z_End ) axis, DV_VALUE in deg.

Is it possible to apply this transform only on some patch(es) selected using DV_MARKER, so that other patches stay untouched and the internal mesh is morphed?

I believe those are rigid body motions only.

Hi,

Could do the job using the DV_KIND= SURFACE_FILE approach (cf. tutorial SU2-6.2.0/TestCases/deformation/naca0012).

By launching SU2_DEF a first time, it creates some file containing all points of selected patches. Then, one edits this file with desired point coordinates after deformation, then re-launch SU2_DEF.

For translation, this is straighforward. For rotation, this needs a bit of scripting to edit the file.

Important parameters are also in the "GRID DEFORMATION PARAMETERS" section. I changed the DEFORM_STIFFNESS_TYPE value from INVERSE_VOLUME to WALL_DISTANCE to have cleaner results.
