Dear SU2 developers,

I notice that in version 7, all SA model variants (SA, SA-neg, SA-E), there is a rotation correction included, e.g., Line 103 in turb_sources.cpp.

Although the standard SA model with rotation correction was listed on NASA Turbulence Modelling Resource website as "SA-R", openly available literature does not give me enough evidence that including this feature would have an obvious impact on modelling accuracy or convergence robustness.

Nevertheless, I guess there was a good reason for including this feature as a default setting in all available SA models implemented in SU2. I wonder what was the original motivation for the including of this rotation correction.

I have previously experimented with the rotation correction using an inhouse code, and did not have a good experience with it. First, the default value of Crot=2, as suggested in the original paper, never allowed me to converge the solver, where I had to reduce Crot to 1 or an even smaller value. Secondly, even when I managed to converge the flow using a less-than-2 Crot value, the main finding is that it predicts a higher efficiency and lower pressure ratio. My test case was a rather standard case, Rotor 67.

Therefore, I wonder what kind of testing has been done that lead to the decision of including the rotation correction in the current version.

Thanks in advance.

Shenren
