Hey everyone,
I'm new to Tecplot 360 and did some first works with it. I now came across a problem, which I could not solve using the search in this forum or on Google. I have 2D Cartesian Vector plots generated. Now I want to mark an area (best with the polylines tool) with a closed geometry and extract the data from this AREA. I know that it is easy to extract the data from the OUTLINE, but I couldn't figure out, how to get all the data inside the specified area. As Tecplot seems to be a mighty tool, I think that this should be somehow possible (at least I hope so). Has anyone a solution for this or knows an approach (even a work-around) to do this? I would be very happy, if someone can help me :-) Thanks in advance! Bjoern |

Hello Bjoern,
We have a couple options for this solution. As you have done before, you can extract the points of a data region and then use 2D Triangulation to create a new zone. Be sure to use the Extacted Points as the Boundary for your 2D Triangulation. The drawback to this method is the original mesh is no longer preserved. The other way you can do this is with the Pick Alter add-on that is supplied with Tecplot 360 EX. This add-on is in a very "Alpha" version. You can add this to Tecplot by adding the following line in the tecplot.add file. $!LoadAddon "tecutiltools_pickalter" Next what you will need to do is create a blanking variable from the Data -> Alter dialog. Then create your geometry region. Go to Data->Pick and Change. In the Alter tab set the variable to the new blanking variable and in the modifier do a +1 and then Apply. Then you can use Value Blanking to isolate this region. The drawback to this method is some areas inside your region can be blanked if they are partially within the region. But this will depend on how fine your mesh is. If you have any more questions feel free to contact us at support@tecplot.com and we will help you further with your solution.
