Multiple PhD graduate student positions are available in the Laboratory for Process 
Intensification in Minerals Engineering (PIME Lab) in the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining 
Engineering at the University of British Columbia. Projects are sponsored by industrial 
partners, NSERC, and Mitacs and are primarily focused on the development of novel mineral 
processing and extractive technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce water 
consumption of different industrial processes and develop new methods to recover valuable 
elements from complex materials and industrial wastes. The research involves experimental 
and numerical work using DEM, CFD, and SPH methods.

Candidates holding M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in any field of engineering, applied mathematics, 
physics, or related fields are welcome to apply. The successful candidate should have strong 
numerical, analytical and experimental skills, and be proactive with strong problem-solving 
abilities and out-of-the-box thinking. Experience in at least one of the following is desirable 
but not necessary: CUDA, C++, Python, or MATLAB programming, and DEM, CFD, SPH, or LB

Positions include competitive scholarship and fellowship packages that will be awarded based 
on merit (starting graduate scholarship package is around $30,000/year). UBC promotes 
innovative technology commercialization, invented by university researchers, and encourages 
scientists to promote their researches and expand them towards industrial and 
implementational initiatives.
