I am searching for a qualified PhD student for a NASA-funded graduate research 
assistantship in computation of bacterial biofilms. The simulations use a hybrid 
approach, with an extended form of the discrete-element method used for simulation 
of the bacterial cell interactions and dynamics and multiphase continuum method 
used to solve for motion of the water and EPS (extracellular polymeric substance) 
via a multigrid finite-difference approach. Successful students will have a 
thesis-based MS degree in a relevant discipline and  background in computational 
fluid dynamics. Both international and domestic students are welcome. The position 
will ideally start in January 2022, but may possibly start later for exceptionally
