We are currently looking for new highly qualified Ph.D. students to lead 
computational efforts in on-going research in turbulent flows starting as early as 
Spring 2023.  A successful candidate will be part of an inter-disciplinary group 
that includes three Ph.D.  and an undergraduate student and will have the 
opportunity to collaborate with other faculty and students at the University of 
Memphis.   The focus of the research is on turbulent features in atmospheric 
boundary layers and data assimilation from ARM site observations.  The position is 
computational in nature and the candidate is expected to have significant 
computational and programming experience, ideally in C and Python languages, and 
ability to work on large research codes.  Experience with MPI is desirable.

The position is fully funded with stipend, tuition, and benefits.  The student 
will work at the forefront of the cutting-edge turbulence and CFD research.  More

publish in top-tier journal papers, and attend international professional 
conferences hosted by the American Physical Society, among others.

The University of Memphis is the largest public university and engineering program 
in western Tennessee and has an enrollment of about 22,000 students. The Herff 
College of Engineering at The University of Memphis is nationally ranked in both 
its undergraduate and graduate programs.  The Department currently has 14 
tenured/tenure-track faculty positions and an enrollment of about 350 students 
pursuing B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The mechanical engineering department has 
an active research program with the graduate study and research categorized under 
two basic areas of specialty: thermo/fluid and applied mechanics/materials.
