Hi everyone
As a reason of my PhD project I need to analyse with FEA (modal analysis) a blade that is also analysed by an in-house FORTRAN CFD solver. The problem is I donno how to send the blade surface to be analysed with ansys. What I have is basically a file of all the grid points of the blade surface (structured mesh) in a .dat file. I would appreciate if someone can explain me if it's possible somehow to import this .dat file into the Ansys DM in order to be read as a full geometry/mesh single body and select one edge as fixed in order to carry on the modal analysis. What I can do easily is to list all the grid points belonging to the four sides of the blade (pressure side, suction side, root face, tip face) And if it's not possible what is the way to proceed. Many thanks in advance. |

Sure, you can read a .dat or .nas file into FE Modeler... (free part of workbench)
Once imported, you can "skit it"... This geometry synthesis gives the elements something to hold on to so you can pass it along to ANSYS mechanical or where ever you are going...

Thanks for your reply PSYMN
The FE Modeler seems perfect but maybe I explained my case a little bit wrong. The .dat file I have in fact is the surrounding area mesh generated by the in-house CFD solver (after reading certain inputs). But I can create an script for writing in a .txt or .dat file the list of grid points belonging to the blade surface in 4 sides (PS, SS, hub, tip) in a similar format to this: # Side 1 (Side ID, Point ID, X, Y, Z) 1 1 x1 y1 z1 1 2 x2 y2 z2 1 3 x3 y3 z3 # Side 2 2 1 x1 y1 z1 2 2 x2 y2 z2 2 3 x3 y3 z3 ... etc And FE modeler should be able to create 4 surfaces with these points and do the geometry. Is mi case still applicable to your solution? Many thanks |

Yes, I think so.
