Hi there,
I need to make a sliding mesh to simulate a propeller, but I don't know how make the mesh. I've tried many ways to make it but when I start the setup in Fluent always get an error that says: "information model may not be compatible with mesh". I want the small cylinder be the sliding mesh. I have seen that I have to make all the geometry as a only one part, but I'm not sure if this is true. Thanks a lot beforehand. |

If you want to simulate sliding mesh you have to create a seperate mesh for the big cylinder and small cylinder as well. Then you have to create non conformal interface inbetween these two where the faces touches each other.

Thanks for writing back. About creating the separate mesh. Are they suppose to be in the same geometry or they can be completely separate and then in Fluent you join them together? I mean can i create the small cylinder geometry and mesh separately from the big cylinder geometry and mesh and then bring them together in Fluent? To get the volume using the enclosure tool is giving me problems. I can get the volume but the plane or surface i am using to get the volume at the inlet region is cutting the volume i am getting for the fluid around the lobes, which is what is rotating. So i get two surfaces instead of one on the target and source faces. When i try to merge them it is not working. Any idea what i can do to solve this problem? Thanks! Jimmy |

Hi Jimmy and Jose,
If you are modelling a lobe compressor (supercharger?), you will need to remesh between iterations. This can be done in Fluent using "dynamic mesh". If you are modelling a rotating turbine as in Jose's picture, this can be done MUCH easier using a single rotating reference frame (SRF). Stu |

Thanks for writing and for your suggestion. I am looking at meshing a lobe compressor. Do you have a good tutorial for doing such a geometry in ANSYS Meshing? The tutorials they have come with the mesh already done but i am looking for the possibility of doing the mesh so i can learn from the process. Currently, when i do the mesh for the lobe fluid it is not working. Any suggestions on instructions for meshing the lobe fluid would be appreciated. Thanks! JImmy |
