I generated hexa mesh for a wing but I could not get any result in CFX. It seems that the mesh is ok but it doesn t work. The error is:

From my experience, fluent gives over or underflow errors when the cells near your object are in some kind bad or broken. Can have to do with left handed cells or negative volume elements that are built at the surface because of a too coarse resolution or other causes. Did you perform a mesh check in icem? That should probably give you an error message because of wrong surface orientations.

I don't have ICEM open right now, but you should find it in the "edit mesh" tab. I think it's the third icon from the left. A green hexamesh with a red checkmark on it. That should tell you what's wrong with your mesh and from there you can check what action you should take to avoid that problem.

So I have to first convert it to unstructured, right? Is there any tool by which I can do pre-mesh check?

Hi Henry,
I don't know cfx, but you can export your mesh as msh and import it into fluent; then click on the check button to see if there are errors. Daniele EDIT: searching the forum I think it's not related to the mesh: check this link: http://www.cfd-online.com/Wiki/Ansys...do_about_it.3F As a first try I would turn on double precision and reduce the time step. |

Alex, here is the results of check:
(if this check is enough then looks like everything is OK) Running diagnostics for Duplicate elements in subset "all" No problems were found for Duplicate elements Running diagnostics for Uncovered faces in subset "all" No problem volume elements were found for Uncovered faces Running diagnostics for Missing internal faces in subset "all" No problems were found for Missing internal faces Running diagnostics for Volume orientations in subset "all" No problems were found for Volume orientations Running diagnostics for Surface orientations in subset "all" faces are correctly oriented Surface orientations are OK Running diagnostics for Hanging elements in subset "all" No problems were found for Hanging elements Running diagnostics for Multiple edges in subset "all" No problems were found for Multiple edges Running diagnostics for Triangle boxes in subset "all" No problems were found for Triangle boxes Running diagnostics for Single edges in subset "all" No problems were found for Single edges Running diagnostics for Non-manifold vertices in subset "all" No problems were found for Non-manifold vertices Running diagnostics for Overlapping elements in subset "all" No problems were found for Overlapping elements Running diagnostics for Unconnected vertices in subset "all" 0 unconnected vertices were found. Unconnected vertices are OK ----------------------------------- and thanks for your suggestion ghost but I dont have access to FLUENT right now |
