Hi

I want to simulate flow around a cylinder and I am new in ICEM CFD. But as you see the following figure, in meshing process in ICEM CFD, mesh is not Ok. ICEM files are attached at end.

scan planes is as follows. In this figure, there is my problem in meshing.

Mesh:

why does this happen?

ICEM files:

Thanks.

Difficult to say, but this can happen if the corners of your blocks are associated with the wrong point of your underlying geometry. You should check:
- in the tree on the left hand side, go to blocking/vertices, right mouse click and select "show association". Maybe you will see that a corner is associated to the wrong point.
- you can repair it by using the fifth icon of the blocking menu (yellow hand). Ther you can alter the association.

In the same way, you can check the association of the edges to curves. This also helps when you find strange mesh configurations.

But, Where is "show association"? please see the following picture.

Also, I don't see fifth icon of the blocking menu (yellow hand).

Look at the first picture that you shared. There you see the yellow hand (fifth Icon).

Not sure about the "show association", In the edge and faces list it should be there, using right mouse button.

"show association" was for edge. when i select it,there is the following picture:

So, when activating association, you see the green arrow, indicating that a vertex (= end point of an edge = corner of a block) is associated to the wrong geometrical point.
Now, you should go to the yellow hand and remove the association of the vertex to the geometrical point. Then the vertex will go back to its original position (see red arrow in my picture) and then probably the problem will be gone.

To find these errors, you can generate the pre-meshes with different options (out of my head):
1. no association
2. vertex association
3. edge association
4. surface association

Checking the mesh using these different settings with increasing complexity, will help nailing down the problem.

Good luck, Gert-Jan
