I am learning ICEM at the moment and really don't this tolerance. What is the difference between triangulation tolerance and topo tolerance? Can someone please explain the topo tolerance in simple words? I really don't get it. I figured out that when i am changing the triangulation tolerance my mesh is following curves "better".
Furthermore, is a triangulation tolerance of 1e-06 bad or needs more computational effort during calculation? How does it affect simulation time or even solution?

bluebase will become famous soon enough
Hi balrog,

triangulation tolerance seems to be relevant for the geometry only. With decreasing triangulation tolerance, the approximation of a curve/surface, such as for a circle, improves.
In ICEM this might lead to higher load on memory on graphics. But there is no direct impact on downstream processes.

The topology tolerance is a property of the mesher; a tolerance which determines how far a line/face of an element is allowed to deviate from the (approximated) geometry.

Triangulation tolerance usually improves "the fit" of a mesh because the mesher needs a discrete geometry (that's what i assume). Even though, a circle can be defined analytically, the mesh probably still need discrete entities.

Best regards,
Sebastian
