[ANSYS Meshing] Parallel meshing utilisation failing

Hi all,

I am trying utilise as much CPU/computational power to perform mesh generation on my PC as possible (I do not need to use the computer for anything other than meshing).

I have seen tutorials online (e.g. how to do this but does not seem to affect CPU performance or change mesh times.

Settings used:

  • Software: Ansys workbench meshing 18.2
  • Mesh: ~80,000 nodes (test geometry)
  • Mesh type: See "mesh image" (mesh chosen is a simplified version (to test times) of actual case which is significantly more dense 0.5 - 1 million cells)
  • Physics preference: CFD

PC used:

I performed two tests, see below:

Test 1:

number of CPU’s for meshing method = 0
number of CPU’s for parallel part meshing = programme controlled
CPU utilisation ~ 30% (estimated)

Meshing time = 4m 20s

Test 2:

number of CPU’s for meshing method = 4

number of CPU’s for parallel part meshing = 4

CPU utilisation ~ 33% (estimated)
Meshing time = 4m 23s

How can I utilise all possible computational resources to reduce meshing times? I am happy to use any and all resources the PC has (all 8 CPU's) and will not use the computer for anything other than meshing.
