Hello. This is my first post here so apologies if I've not posted this in the right area. I should point out that whilst I have experience in Fluent (thus am comfortable with basic meshing etc) I am by no means a pro using ANSYS.
I've been trying to find out for a while whether I can accomplish what I'm here to ask, but other sites and documentation haven't been clear and ANSYS haven't got back to my 'Contact Us' for days. My Problem: I am simulating an orbital penetrator impacting with ice. I am currently applying the problem in 2D axi-symmetric and everything runs but the solve times are extremely large to say the full mesh is around 5000 elements. Am I missing something here? I'm used to CFD so these solve times seem extreme. Is it possible to use an AMD Radeon RX 480 GPU to speed up processing for this problem? And/Or it is possible to perform parallel processing for this problem? I'm not expecting lightning fast results, I'm just surprised at how long the solutions are taking. PC: Processor: Skylake i5-6500 4 core @ 3.2 GHz, RAM: 16 GB DDR4 GPU: 8GB AMD Radeon RX 480. Once again, apologies if this is the wrong place; any help at all is appreciated. |
