Hi,

Does anyone know how to improve the quality of a tetrahedral mesh up to around 80% in ICEM CFD. I used the edit mesh tool and raised the quality up to 55%. But after that it does not improve. The shape of my geometry is a simple cylinder with a bulge. I used Patch independent and Robust(Octree) methods for meshing. If anyone knows about this, please help me i will be really thankful.

Thanks,
Rahul

Hi Rahul,

Do you strictly have to use tetrahedral mesh? If you can switch to hexahedral mesh, then the geometry you describe can easily give you a .8 quality mesh.

.55 is actually an acceptable level of quality, but if you want to go higher than that, perhaps you could tweak the settings of the mesh: you could make the surface mesh and the element size smaller. This will lead to more elements, but it could also help with the quality.

The problem with tetra mesh is that there are only a few parameters you can change, and if that doesn't work there is not much else that you can do that I'm aware of.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

hi rahul..
i am doing unstructured tetrahedral mesh on flying wing but i am unable to reach even 0.3 or 0.4 quality.
As you said i have used patch independent and robost octree but i am getting poor quality and no prism layers are created.
please see on this issue....and help as soon as possible
i am waiting for your reply.
