Hiya
How do I stop and restart a solver? Working on 1000 iterations and waiting for graph to show convergence, which is all taking so much time! Thanks |

hit the stop button in solver manager and wait until the current time step is finished and the result file (*.res) is written to your hard drive.
to restart, select the result file from the stopped calculation as "Initial Values". |

the second link leads to ANSYS CFX-Solver Manager User's Guide You press ctrl+f and search for 'restart'. Last edited by -Maxim-; February 18, 2016 at 02:12. Reason: link |

I would guess you had your graph set to display 'this run only' or some fixed number of iterations and the out file showed the total number of iterations. It usually shows 'number of iterations of THIS run' in () right below it.

In the Solver Control, I had iterations fixed --> min:1 and max: 1000 iterations, but I'd stopped it at 80 and when I attempted restart, it only showed the graph at 80 (not beyond) - however, the iteration continued. So, the graph and solver were not in sync

can you provide screenshots of that? And the settings of the monitors? I am sure that this is just a problem with the settings of the monitors and/or the monitored variables.

The stopped simulation doesn't show that both are in sync (can't open that simulation, i DAREN'T STOP THIS ONE). Regarding the settings (again, can't take screenshots) but these are the only steps: Setup > Insert > Solver > Solver Control > Basic Settings > Convergence control > Maximum Iterations > 1000 > Convergence Criteria > Residual Target > 1e-5 > Apply > Close |

yeah, that would now be interesting for the monitors that were/are 'out of sync'. Take your time, finish your current simulation and then try to restart the other one again and check if your sync problem still exists.
