Hi every one
I want to simulate mass transfer of iodine( present in air) to the scrubbing solution( which is mixture of NaOH, Na2S2O3 and water) in a venturi scrubber. i have started with the multi component approach. i am going to take air and iodine as one multi component mixture and scrubbing solution as other. I guess i have to take both as variable composition mixture. But i am not 100 percent sure about it Further should i take air as continuous fluid or dispersed fluid. and what about scrubbing solution? Continuous or particle tracking fluid? As solution is being entered from throat section and it is being atomized. while air with iodine is being entered from inlet of venturi. |

How these components exist? Air is a gas presumably, but is iodine a vapour in the air? Or droplets? What phase is the scrubbing solution in? Solid particles? If so what shape and how big?

Iodine is in the vapour phase but is non condensable. Scrubbing solution is in liquid form. Iodine is to transfer from air to scrubbing solution.
Actually i want to find removal efficiency of iodine from air to the scrubbing solution in a venturi scrubber. Air and iodine mixture is being entered from the venturi inlet (at beginning of converging section) where as scrubbing solution is being entered from throat section and is being atomized. After atomization solution is being converted into small droplets after entering in throat section and presumably mass transfer is taking place( i.e iodine from air to scrubbing solution). |

This sounds complex. I hope you have plenty of time to develop this model. You have multicomponent and multiphase flow, mass transfer and possibly chemistry.
I would not even consider doing a simulation of this complexity without a thorough knowledge of all these physics and how to model them. But to answer your question - I don't know how to model them either. There are so many options. You are going to have to go through them in detail to work out what combination of options can model the physics you need. |
