Dear CFX users, is it possible to create inflation layers inside the domain without any BC? I'm trying to simulate flat water jet. I want to use inflation within jet. But there is no fluid boundary there, so I can not locate it. As well locating by "thin surface" and subdomain is not suitable because then there is wall BC in jet. Thanks,

Hmm, I don't think there is a way around this. Is your geometry simple enough to make a hex mesh using the patran mesher instead of the default?

You can create a subdomain in CFX-5 (i.e. without specifying sources), and inflate from it using the 'Surfaces' option under Create>Inflated Boundary. No BC is required, and no BC is generated during the inflation. Is this what you require ? Sharks |

If your geometry is simple enough, you could devide it into 2 sections along the centre line of the jet. Create two separate solids from the 2 sections and specify both of these int he domains form. At the junction between the solids you may be able to inflate from those surfaces. I'd check it out on a simple box first. alternatively If the geom's simple enough use the hex mesh approach Neale suggested.

Neale:It will take me much more time to create proper mesh.But it is possible solution. Sharks:If I utilize your approach, I always get message "No surfaces to be inflated!".Is it coused by missing patch? Steve:I will install it immediately,It will help me I hope. Instead of using inflation. Just start with a good quality mesh and turn on mesh adaption in the solver control panel. Adapting to velocity will cause the mesh to be refined at the edge of the jet.
