I am new with icem cfd. Is it possible to mesh a 2D geometry with Tri type, or only with Hex type? Thanks.

Hi,

You can create 2D meshes in ICEM with tris or quads, which can be extruded to give wedge and hex volume elements.

Hello Glenn Thanks for your help. But the word "this" you said means Hex? So I can not creat 2D meshes with Tri type, right?

Hi,

CFX5 is a 3D solver. It cannot use a 2D mesh. A 2D mesh (eg tris or quads) needs to be extruded one element in the third dimension to give a 3D volume mesh, but only one element thick. Then you define symmetry boundary conditions on the front and back faces and you can trick the 3D solver into doing a 2D simulation. Note that it is not a true 2D solution as it still solves for a Z velocity, but if everything is correct the Z velocity should be zero (within convergence accuracy).
