Hello experts,

My question is as follows:

Is it possible to do an analysis of noise development in CFX?

I've read something about Sound Pressure Level (SPL) which can be calculated with pressure fluctations dependent on the time. Is this common to do with CFX?

Greetings Iljar

I am also interested in this topic, In my case, it is a rotating wind turbine.
Is it possible to get results also in the steady state, as one could rotate the ˝listener˝

Theoretically, yes, CFX can do acoustic modelling. CFX models the flow fluctuations which then propagate as acoustic waves. But in reality, most people are interested in sound levels a long way away from noise sources so the computational resources required to model acoustic waves from the source to the observer is unmanageable in CFD software like CFX.

So the usual approach is to use a CFD solver like CFX to solve the noise field at the noise source using a model which just encloses the noise source. You then couple this model to an acoustic solver like SYSNOISE which can then do the modelling out to the observer.

There might also be some elements in ANSYS APDL which can be used for acoustic modelling, so you might be able to use ANSYS APDL rather than a specialist acoustic simulation software. But coupling that to CFX will require some thinking.
