Dear All,

I am wondering how it could be possible to disable Auto Save in Pre-CFX!!
I am working on a case which has many faces and bodies. Also, the number of cells is huge. So, during arranging the set-up, Auto-Save process really wastes my time. [each time that it goes through Auto Save it takes about 30 minutes]

I appreciate your attention in advance.

Edti -> Options -> Common -> Auto Save.


Once I had it on 10 minutes, and saving took about 10 minutes. So not much time to interrupt this process. ;-)

I cannot see Auto Save in Common tab!!!
It only includes "Appearance", "viewer setup" and "units"
Any idea?

I always use CFX-Pre standalone. Could it be that you use it through Workbench? Then look at the options in Workbench.

I would suggest (as others have) to start using CFX in standalone mode, not in workbench. Much faster and more responsive with quick autosaves.

This next advice is useful if you split the geometry up for meshing purposes only, which created the large number of faces/bodies:

I would suggest you start exporting your mesh to Fluent Mesh, then importing onto CFX Pre. You must make "named selections" out of all bodies and faces that you will need to define, without any overlap. This will greatly simplify your geometry and delete a lot of the faces which are not of interest.

Thank you so much. It was really didactic. One question;
Is it easier to import .msh rather than cmdb mesh files?
What is the difference if I work with these two types of mesh?

I have also one more question. When I run my simulation, the time for partitioning is so time-consuming. Do you think that the format of Mesh that I use (cmdb or msh), has something to do with the time of partitioning?

Try the detour via fluent as Evelica suggested. This can simplify your case.

Alternatively try a different partitioning mehtod. If your geometry is very complex, deviate from the default MeTIS method and use a different type. Recursive Bisection or using a certain direction. Just give it a try.

Check the summary of the partitioning in your output file. What does it say? How long does the partitioning take? You might find that your partitions have a large overlap, indicating that partitioning is inefficient.

I use MeTIS method as the default method and it takes about 24 hours to pass this part and next, it goes through the solving part.
It should be noted that I have 2 Rotational Periodic interfaces they include a huge number of faces. I am simulating one part of an electrical generator. So, there are many strands and insulation as the solid part and fluid flow around it.
Also, My computer has 256 GB RAM.

I think indeed your geometry is complex. I've never seen that before. 15 minutes max.
Try a different partitioning type. E.g. Radial or tangential. Could improve significantly.
