Hi everyone,

I am wondering if anyone knows what nonreflective boundary condition has been implemented in ANSYS CFX. As it is a beta feature it seems as there is no documentation, not even who developed the boundary condition. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Good question, you should ask ANSYS support that question.

Hi Thomas,

I am also interested in the non-reflective boundary conditions due to a current project. So far I found out that there are two different non-reflective boundary conditions in CFX: one for inlets, outlets and openings and one especially for openings (absorbing layer). Furthermore I found a thesis in which the first boundary condition was described and used. According to this thesis the boundary condition is based on a work by Poinsot and Lele and there is a validation report by Zwart and Abshoff. I hope this helps you. I would also appreciate any further information.

thesis:
Computation of the Thermoacoustic Driving Capability of Rocket Engine Flames with Detailed Chemistry by Attila Lehel Török (found at google scholar)

paper:
Boundary Conditions for Direct Simulations of Compressible Viscous Flows by Poinsot and Lele (found at google scholar)

Validation report:
Non-reflective Boundary Conditions in CFX-5 by Zwart and Abshoff

Greetings!

Thank you for the response so far!

I am currently trying to get in contact with Ansys support but I have to go through the University which makes it a bit of a complicated process. Hence I asked here but if I get an answer I will post it.

The literature mentioned is great for the mean time. Unfortunately it seems as the Ansys validation report is not publicly available.
