2D simulation - ICEM meshing for CFX question

Dear Sirs,
I've been trying to get the grid in ICEM for Ansys CFX to make 2D simulation. I would like to have 3D mesh with 1-element width to use Symmetry condition on the flat surfaces. To do this I use ICEM in the following manner: 1. Create plane drawing 2. Surface mesh this drawing 3. Extrude mesh to 1 layer 4. Output to CFX As a result I have 3D mesh in ANSYS CFX, but I can't make any boundary conditions as I have no 2D regions. Could you help me? What steps should I do to make 3D mesh with 1-element width? I would like to have the mesh like in "Free Surface Flow Over a Bump" in the CFX tutorial. Thank you! |

There are icemcfd tutorials in the icemcfd help file that cover this.

Once you've extruded the mesh to have one 3D element thick - you need to make sure you have surface elements all around. You can use the Edit Mesh > Check Mesh function for this. (Look for uncovered faces.) Then you can move these surface elements into appropriate groupings for boundary conditions.

Hello,
The following topic might help you: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forum/cfx.cgi?read=19816 Before extruding your mesh in ICEM, put all mesh elements in a specific part (say symmetry1). Then extrude it using the dialog boxes to specify the names for the "top" (let's say symmetry2)and the sides (sides). In CFX-Pre you'll find thoses 3 names that define the mesh. You can right-click on any of them to edit your mesh and split the part "sides" in "inlet", "outlet", "top", etc... There is probably a way to name the sides with different names in ICEM but I still haven't figured it out yet. Hope this helps, Felix |
