I have performed a run in CFX, then for some reason I had to pause the run and turn off the computer. Now, to continue the run after clicking on solution on workbench, CFX-solver takes the original .def file as the solver input file and initialization option is set to automatic, while continue history from is unchecked and the initial values file name is set to the original file I used. Is it not wrong to use the original file as the initial values since the simulation has run for time? Sometimes CFX-solver takes a .res file instead of a .def file as the solver input. Is it correct?

If you use your RMB (Right Mouse Button) on the solution block, can't you select "Continue Calculation". That should do the trick.

The snapshot looks correct.

Solver input file = original input file
Initial Values File = results from the partial run you did before turning off the computer.

It doesn't work. It returns with an error: "The interpolator can not interpolate an initial values file with steady-state results onto a target file with transient results."

From the screenshot, CFX_001.res was the original steady-state file I used to initialize the transient simulation, not the partial result from transient run.

Should I change CFX_001.res to the partial transient result to continue the run?

I think "provided by current solution data" from the screenshot means that CFX-solver doesn't use the initial steady-state results although "continue calculation" may not be suitable for a transient run that was intialized with steady-state results.

Was the Workbench cell up to date?

It seems the project got into an "Out of date" state.

There is a tick on solution with the number 22. I can right click on the solution and select "Accept interrupted solution as up-to-date". After that I choose "Continue calculation" but again the run exits with the same error. It seems Workbench doesn't operate correctly when I click on the solution to continue a run.

In general, I don't find Workbench very reliable. Therefore I prefer to use CFX standalone. Than I have full control on what input files and initial guesses are used. Moreover, files are removed when I want them to be deleted. That is better than letting Workbench to have full control, with the risk of loosing precious results. I have seen that multiple times, especially when running Fluent under Workbench (but that is different story).

As a result, I only use Workbench for Geometry and meshing. Thereafter, I close it and start with the CFX-launcher.

Recently someone renamed Workbench to Doesn'tWotkbench. That holds to some extent. Only if you work in Workbench with more applications than solely CFX, than I see added value. Otherwise not.
