Wall Heat Flux not a listed variable

I've run a simulation on a rather complex system with heat and fluid flow. The entire purpose of the simulation was to view the temperature distribution and heat fluxes, but when I try to plot the heat flux, "Wall Heat Flux" isn't an option. I have "Heat Flux", but its values are unknown, so that isn't helpful.
Is there a reason why the "Wall Heat Flux" wouldn't have been computed? |

If you solved for Thermal or Total Energy, Wall Heat Flux will be there... unless you specified the variables to be written to the res file and didn't include it. More likely it is what you are doing in Post that is wrong.
What kind of location are you trying to plot the wall heat flux on? -CycLone |

Let's say I'm trying to observe the Wall Heat Flux by applying a contour onto the surface of a body which has a generation term. When I click the "..." button next to Variable, "Wall heat Flux" isn't there. If I check the "Variables" Tab, "Wall heat Flux" isn't there under "Solution" either.
I don't recall specifying that the "Wall Heat Flux" values not be written to the res file, I don't even know how to do that, how would I check to ensure it was written? |

If you didn't change anything under output control, the solver would write it by default, so this is probably not the problem.
What energy equation did you solve for? -CycLone |

All domains used Thermal Energy.

Well, I don't know what to say. It should be there. Did you pick the right RES file?
If the problem is reproducible (i.e. you can set up another case that demonstrates the same behavior), you may want to contact tech support. In my experience there is always user error at some point (don't fret, we all make mistakes), but its hard to diagnose without seeing the case. Sorry if that isn't much help. -CycLone |

Hi,
you use Solid regions? I suppose, Wall Heat Flux can only be plotted on Solid boundaries... Marco |

I did use a solid region.
To follow up on this problem, I have addressed it... to some degree. "Wall Heat Flux" is still missing, and I still seem unable to plot the "Heat Flux" on a contour, but if I right-click on a named region in the Outline View, and change it from Constant to variable, the Heat Flux can be plotted, so I've been making use of this work-around. Thanks for all the help! |

Can you post your CCL here? It will be easier for a quick-checking... Definitely something is missing in your setup.
