Where can I get an introduction book that explains how the equation solvers like STONE, BLOCK STONE, AMG etc work.

For a good introduction, I would recommend a combination of the following two famous texts:

1) "Numerical Computation of Internal and External Flows, Computational Methods for Inviscid and Viscous Flows" Professor Charles Hirsch

2) "Numerical Recipes in C++: The Art of Scientific Computing" William H. Press (Editor), Saul A. Teukolsky (Editor), William T. Vetterling, Brian P. Flannery

For the Stone solver, I would start with the original classic paper of H.L. Stone:

"Iterative Solution of Implicit Approximations of Multidimensional Partial Differential Equations," SIAM J. Numer. Anal., 1968, Vol. 5, pp. 530-558
