Very new to this forum. I am by no mean experienced with CFD in general and am currently working on this project which I couldn’ proceed for days.
I was using FloEFD in Solid Edge, and was solving a impeller with a local rotating region. After mesh generation has completed the solver shows “Calculation” at the bottom, and shows no progress in the goals. A few moments later it gave me a warning saying “Supersonic flow is detected in considerable amount of cells” with comment “manual stopping criteria is recommended” something like that. My another question would be why is having supersonic flow an issue? Anyway, even after about 7 hours no progress has been made, with all goals showing 00% in progress and “calculation” showing at the bottom of the solver. I really need to get this done in days... Sincerely appreciated for any suggestions. I’ll upload any file or screenshot if necessary. |

Hi Maxwell,
that can be for a multiple of reasons, but I think it might be linked to your mesh most likely. I would need to know more about the setup as well. If done wrong, there could be other reasons as well. A few points that I would need to know: - What rotation method did you use? - What does the mesh look like in that region? - Is the impeller surrounded by a housing? - Did you use stator walls on non-rotating parts? - How does the rotating region look like and how does it intersect with the geometries? - What is the RPM? Some other questions might come up once I know more. Regards, Boris |
