Does FloWorks have linear motion capability?

I was wondering if FW can model a spring valve. If I have a flow rate coming in, can I apply a spring constant on the valve body and monitor the response of the poppet against the pressure of the fluid?

The Parametric Study feature in FW was developed to automate this type of procedure, e.g. determining the force-balanced position of the valve body and the resulting pressure and flow situation automatically. This is done by a simple single-parameter optimization of one geometry parameter versus an Engineering Goal connected by an equation, in this case an assembly parameter for the valve body position, a force Goal, and the spring equation.

does it use a Design of Experiments as the optimization routine? So does it do some sort of expansion series that it does a few static runs and then inerpolates the results in between to come up with the optimal scenario?

No. It is far simpler. It will just increment a value by a given amount and re run the analysis. It then checks the associated goal and if you hit the target value it stops, if not it does another increment and so on till either the range is exhausted or goes to the other side of the target. Well, at least that is my understanding of it. The Flomerics guys might provide more detail if there is any.
