Dear all,

I am studying transient particle flows. So far, I've always used massless particles, which have a rather easy setup. Now, I want to switch to massive particles, and I'm a bit confused by the setup.

What I want to do:
- set up 20 particle streams using group
- inject 1 particle per stream per particle timestep

Now, I would assume that just setting the particle diameter and material (density) would fully specify the mass I want to add; but still a flowrate has to be supplied and as far as I can see it can be any number.

I know from the tutorials what the flowrate does in a steady state simulation; it gives the amount of particles per steady-state track. But what does it do in transient? With turbulent dispersion on, there aren't really given 'tracks', are there? Just certain particle positions at every step in time. Does it mean that in fact, instead of one particle, there are several particles at that position at any time? What happens if the set flowrate is lower than the particle volume x density? Are particles deleted, or is there `0.1 particle per tracked particle' or so?

Could anyone advise me on how to specify the initial settings?

Thanks a lot,
Cees
