Hi

Im using Fluent ver 14 to model a propeller using RANS k-epilson. Im using the sliding mesh method with a inner rotating domain and an outer stationary domain. The inner rotating domain is set to the rotating speed of the propeller which is 2001 deg/s. The outer stationary domain only has a X vel of 2m/s. In my case, only the propeller blades and the hub are modelled to get the thrust and the torque. Im using transient solver.

Some questions:

1)What is the size of the rotating domain? I tried different rotating domain size and the results are different. How close should the rotating domain be to the propeller?

2)I saw some papers using FLUENT steady solver. Is that possible as propeller flow in reality is not really steady.

3)My thrust and torque changes greatly as the solution proceed as it not accurate. The numerical results for thrust and torque is around 20 N and 2Nm while the actual results is around 130N and 7Nm. What could be causing issues in my case set-up?

4)For the timestep size, I set it around 0.005 which is 10 deg per time-step, is that too big and causing all these errors?

5)I dont see the propeller wake forming, why is that so when Im using transient solver?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello !!

Please I am simulating cavitation of full 5 bladed marine propeller using Ansys Fluent, with sliding mesh

I am new in simulating multiphase flow, and i need if it is possible steps to simulate cavitation using Fluent

Best regards

Samir

HI everyone,

I want to simulate a marine propeller too.
Could you tell me step by step how to do it?
Thank a lot!

I am studying how to simulate B4-70 marine propeller using sliding mesh method.

The problem is the solutions could not get the convergence.

And the values of KT and KQ vs J are not typical.

In my results, the KT and KQ increase when J increases. This is not correct.

Could you tell me what is the problem?

Thank you for any help.
