Hi all,
Can anyone please explain what the where the washcoat factor comes into play in the equations in the fluent solver. I only know that the washcoat factor is ratio of catalyst surface area to reactive wall area.
I am running a platinum catalysed propane combustion simulation and when i increase the washcoat factor above 1 the reaction rate and the associated temperature of reaction actually decrease and vice versa with decreasing the factor. Does anyone has any idea about this?

Dear Amit!

Yes, it seems odd that the temperature and reaction rate decrease when increasing the washcoat factor unless you simulating endothermic reaction. Does the temperature increase with the catalyst length in any case?

Are you sure these are not convergence issues?

Now I definitely have run into the same issues during my project!

I think it may be a bug in "heat of surface reaction" option.
Compare to: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/flu...actor-bug.html

1) The heat of surface reaction depends on kinetics at the same conversion level of all species (that is WRONG). I could have 30 or 130 K adiabatic heat rise when changing surface reaction rate constant (at 100% conversion at both case).

2) Washcoat factor increase decreases the adiabatic heat rise (at the same 100% conversion level).

Affect at least v162 both in 2D and 3D.
