Hi all,

I've encountered a problem recently when I've started using periodic flow for boundary conditions when running AnSys Fluent via a HPC cluster. I've set up the inlet and outlet into periodic conditions and applied the mass flow rate with zero pressure gradient.

Everything seems fine until I've submitted the job to the HPC, which converged almost immediately in one iteration, which I know it cant be right. So I ran the job manually on workstation and it does seem to compute correctly. So my guess is its my journal file that maybe the cause of it as I submit the job via cluster.

The journal file as it follows:

==============

; Read case file
rc periodic_case.cas

; Initialize the solution
/solve/initialize/initialize-flow

; Calculate 10000 iterations
it 10000

; Write data file (uncompressed, iteration number included in file name)
wd periodic-%i.dat

; Exit FLUENT
exit
yes

===========

Is there a particular command I would need to run for periodic cases?

No there are not special commands for periodic cases. If you've set it up properly then solve iterate 10000 should work.

I recommend to run the journal file locally on your workstation for 1 iteration and save the initialized case and data file. Then run that on cluster. You will be able to catch errors in your journal file easier this way.

But if you know the problem can't be solved in one iteration, why don't you just run it longer?
