Moving Reference or sliding mesh?

Hello,
I am new to MRF and would like to start to model a simple case. I want to model the flow between two circular plates. One of the plates rotates with X rpm while the other is stationary. I would like to know how to start. The mesh adjunct the moving plate needs to be well defined. How should I attack this problem? Sliding mesh? One single moving reference? Dynamic mesh? Thank you in advance! |

This problem doesn't require a moving mesh if these are plain circular discs. You can have a fixed mesh, and just specify that the upper wall is moving.
And then you can do whatever reference frame you want. You can stick with the stationary reference frame since one plate is stationary. But since you want to learn how MRF works, this is not very useful. Then you can move at the same rate as the moving plate. But actually if you ave moving with the moving plate, then relative to the moving reference frame the plate will be stationary and the actual stationary plate will now be moving. This is exactly the same as before except now all the velocities are relatively flipped. Maybe you can learn something mechanical by doing this (like setting options and clicking buttons) but otherwise you get the exact same result. |
