Question Why can't I remove the refined cells in my mesh?(can't coarse it

Guys,
I refined my mesh using adaption option (> region adaption) but now cannot remove it. Why? I tried using the method mentioned in this post:

Coarsening works the same way as refinement but there isn't anything like an undo button. You cannot simply undo your refinement. You have to mark the cells using a register the same way to do the refinement/coarsening each time and it modifies the mesh each time.

but I don't know why coarsening doesn't work for me.
