Hello everyone,

I want to create a mesh which is very fine close to the cylinder and that the elements become larger with increasing distance from the cylinder.

In the picture you can see my actual mesh. I split the geometry in two areas (green line in the picture) and used face meshing on both areas. Moreover I used edge sizing on the edges of the cylinder and the rectangle (in the picture) with a number of divisions of 20. I tried to create the desired mesh with inflation, but inflation and face meshing don't work together. I hope you can help me.

Thanks in advance

Hi Man,

probably you need to split the face containing the cylinder in 4 parts at the "diagonals" of the quadrate (which is your face actually), and the assign the element spacings on the diagonals, making so that near the cilynder there are more elements

Hello,

thanks for your answer. I also tried to split the face containing the cylinder in 4 parts, but not with diagonals (my splitting is shown in the picture). But then facemeshing doesn't work in this area. I tried facemeshing with all 4 parts und also with only one of the 4 parts.
In the second picture is my desired mesh.

I think splitting like you did is not good stuff, because your splits have 5 edges each instead of 4. Infact it produced unstructured mesh rather than "structured" one. Basically, the edges should go in couples 2 by 2. You can also see it in your target mesh: the diagonals are coupled 2 by 2, and the other couples are the edges of the quadrate and the 90° cuts of the cricle.

Okay, that was the problem. Now it works and I have my desired mesh. Thanks a lot!
