Dear all,
I am using the fluid-structure interaction (FSI) approach with coupling of Mechanical and Fluent. It is working by transferring data (integrated pressure, displacements etc.) between solvers by multiple so-called coupling iterations. Recently I discovered, that Fluent itself has an option to use build-in simple structural solver to facilitate FSI simulation. I will use this approach and compare the results with the standard approach described above. However, I do not understand, and I did not found the information in theory guide, on how the intrinsic FSI solver works. I mean, are there any coupling iterations? Or there is created a monolithic matrix, as in monolithic solvers such as Abaqus? Kind regards Destroy |

Intrinsic FSI in FLUENT still use a partitioned scheme, solving fluid by CFD and solid by FEM. However, there is a few limitations such as thermal expansion is not captured and the structure Young's modulus has to be constant, which I don't understand why.
