Hello everyone,

I'm currently practicing CFD use of combustion and effusion cooling for gas turbine combustors through Ansys Fluent and a tutorial book.

In that tutorial, which considers the flamelet, it uses a discrete phase model to describe the fuel injection.

Firstly when I read this tutorial, I thought 'Why this tutorial wasn't use a multiphase mixture model? Because this injection also consisted of liquid(droplet) and gas(air).'

Plus, I didn't use any discrete phase model until now, so I was wondering about the difference between DPM and the Multiphase mixture model. So, I look up Fluent's user guide, theory guide, and some of the CFD forum's posts.

Through these materials, I understood the difference between the DPM model and the Multiphase mixture model as described below.

1. DPM model - This model is used when considering the particles are not fully consistent in the domain. Such as injection fuel in the combustor, and dust particles in the air.

2. Multiphase mixture model - This model is used when considering the continuous more than two phases. Such as cavitation or phase change in the flow field.

So, I want to know that these understandings are proper for explaining the difference between the two models.

Also, I want to know your opinion and other information related to these models.

Thank you.
