following wave generation

I am modelling a ship in a seaway (waves). Incident waves (travelling from front to back of the ship) are easy to implement; i specify orbital velocities + ship velocity, and wave elevation (phase fraction) at the inlet. Where i am struggling is for following waves (waves that overtake the ship, travelling back to front), in a sense they should be defined at the outlet. I have some difficulties getting any results on that, any help, comments would be much appreciated.
