I am modeling flow through a packed bed in a cylindrical geometry where the packed bed is in a small region on the outer wall. I have two inlets and one outlet. One inlet represents a spray located at the center of the cylinder directed towards the packed bed and the second inlet is air coming in above the spray from one of the end caps of the cylinder. The outlet is located above the porous region. I am implementing the porous media via the fluid boundary condition but my solution doesn't seem to converge realistically to where I should see a spray impacting the porous bed and a secondary flow that recirculates throughout the cylinder. Any guidance on this scenario would be greatly appreciated.

For porous calculations, you can change the residual from 1e-3 to 1e-6...then only flow will be developed.

or otherwise you can give one directional effect by giving at least 1000 times more in the other two directions normal to the flow direction.

I'm setting the plane tool at the boundary of the packed bed and then updating the plane tool in the porous zone tab which subsequently sets the direction vectors 1 and 2. I'm not sure what and how to give the other two directions normal to the flow direction 1000 times more. Can you explain this in a little more detail? Thanks for your help

I believe I figured out my problem. I created a second volume for the porous region and then created a fluid continuum boundary condition. In fluent I can set the porous zone of that fluid region to the specs I desire.
