confusion over processor..!!

As I am posting for the first time so Hello to eveyone...
I use Ansys CFD and Fluent for flow analysis and i am buying a new laptop under alot of budgetry constraint. My project is Flow and thermal Analysis of journal bearing..i am confused over the type of processor i must use specifically I3 2350M or A8 4500M or I5 2450M...pz guide me to the best i should purchase.. thanx in advance... |

If the choice is between those listed, then the A8-4500M is the winner (4 physical cores), i3's and i5's in the mobile versions come with only 2 physical cores (and then with hyperthreading they end up with 4 threads). Since virtual/logical cores are useless for CFD/FEM, you should get the AMD.
Also, the AMD comes with much more powerful onboard graphics and OpenCL support (which might come in hand with CAD in the future). If you can up the CPU budget you should really get a i7-2760QM or similar (2720 etc), which has 4 physical cores and is nearly twice as fast as the listed AMD and i5 variants. Get loads of RAM (16 gb possibly, and make the RAM as fast as possible 1600 MHz and above). |

I think I5 2450M is the best choice. AMD had good price to performance at the moment but today is not... |

I mistook that.
But I wonder whether questioner has MPI license because I dimly know that ANSYS Fluent basically use 2 cores. It may be a good to choose processor that has higher clocks if questioner doesn't have license. |

Hey KKD,
Do you strictly have to get a laptop? IMO if you don't really need it to be mobile, you can get a SIGNIFICANTLY better computer for the same price (or similar specs for much cheaper). Personally I just run an old dodgy laptop for most of my stuff and I have my beast desktop* that I use to do all the heavy lifting. It usually just sits in the one spot running simulations for days/weeks anyway, so (depending on your simulation times) a laptop will be of no benifit because you cant really use it anyway. just my 2 cents. *On its way (sooooon!) |

M having.a system 4 dat type of extensive detailed files...but for a no of reasons I have to work remote , dats why gng 4 a lappy... Thanx 4 ur replies... |
