Hi!
I absolutely need your help with a problem a faced... I even don't know what to do. It's about Star-CCM+ and a hardware. So the thing is that I have a pretty heavy model and when I try to open one of its scenes (while running it on a cluster) everything stucks for a couple of minutes (it may be from 5 to 20min). I use a special server with Nvidia quadro for a kind of a remote visualization (the connection line is something like that: workstation -> vnc-client -> x11vnc -> Server). And there is one strange thing I found - client CCM uses only one core for that. |

Two separate things here:
1. Normal VNC does not support OpenGL, rather look at using the combination of TurboVNC and VirtualGL. This means starting the GUI with vglrun. 2. Star-CCM+ in my experience needs to use mesa for this to work properly. I have used the following command line to start when used like this: vglrun starccm+ -rsh ssh -mesa |

Had you thought about using Nomachine NX together with mesa? I use it remotely with a cluster 1,000 miles away and if the nextwork bandwidth/latency is OK it works pretty well, even on big 20M+ cell models.
NX is free for single user. Another possibility is a PCOIP solution with a real local graphics card but obviously it is a more expensive solution. |
