Hi all,
I want to build my workstation for CFD solve (fluent)
should i choose R9 3900x (12C/24T, 3.8 GHz - 4.6 GHz, 64MB) or Threadripper 1950x 3.4G TURBO 4.0G / 16 CORE / 32 THREAD for CFD? all have same price.
My case is about 5-10 milions cell tetra mesh.

Both have very similar performance according to the benchmark thread.


1920X may be a good option if you wish to save some money.

I would make the following argument about these benchmark figures:
With the same amount of effort put into optimization, a Zen1-based Threadripper CPU will be faster than a Zen2-based Ryzen CPU.
If I recall correctly, both third gen Ryzen results were obtained after substantial optimization of the memory subsystem. Sure, Zen1 has its limits in this particular department, and the cores are slower. But it is still 4 vs 2 memory channels.
